Travel Info

Hotel info

We have reserved rooms for our wedding at the locations below. Feel free to stay anywhere you like but be aware that shuttles will only be stopping at these locations. If you stay somewhere else you will either need to walk to one of these hotels or drive yourself.

Hampton Inn & Suites Madison / Downtown

Two blocks from our apartment and two blocks to State Street (Madison's pedestrian-only street). $109/night + $12/night parking, free breakfast, wifi, pool + hot tub, and fitness center. Book a room by November 5 here.

Hyatt Place Madison/Downtown

Around the corner from our apartment and two blocks from the capital square. $109/night + $10/night parking, free breakfast, wifi, pool, fitness center, and airport shuttle. Book a room by November 5 here.

Flying into Madison

15 minutes from downtown. It may not be your cheapest option but definitely the most convenient. The Hyatt should have a free airport shuttle. If you need to cab: Green Cab and Uber are going to be cheaper than the other companies.

Flying into Milwaukee

1.5 hour drive. Generally cheaper than flying into Madison and more convenient than driving up from O'Hare. Badger Bus runs regularly from MKE airport to downtown Madison.

Flying into Chicago

3 hour drive. Van Galder buses run regularly from O'Hare to downtown Madison.

Flying from Florida?

Allegiant Air flies into Appleton/Green Bay airport (2 hours from downtown Madison) or Chicago Rockford airport (1.5 hours from downtown Madison).

Wedding Party

Let's learn a bit about us and the wedding party. There will be a quiz immediately following the ceremony.

Laura and Vesper met shortly after both started at Epic in Madison. Since they lived in the same building it was easy to see each other often and soon they were inseparable. Eventually Vesper wanted to make sure she could never get away, so he surprised her with a ring in a Christmas present. The tears were happy and the answer was yes.

Shay Kulha and Laura were college roommates at Notre Dame and the best of friends. She is an avid runner and has tricked several people into running a half marathon including Laura and Vesper. We are thrilled to have her as our Maid of Honor, so any questions and especially concerns can go to her.

Robert Hansen and Vesper have been friends since birth, so you know he has a lot of dirt. Don't go asking too many questions. It is all lies and I'm sure you don't want to spoil his Best Man speech. You should talk about brewing beer, Geocaching, or photography instead.

Lehar Kanodia is our oldest friend in Madison. We met at Epic, lived in the same building, and moved downtown together. She expands our food choices with her vegetarianism, plans all group activities compulsively, and despite all our best efforts her favorite beer is still Bud light.

Claudio Lee and Vesper lived together through all of college. We had many adventures including ceiling fan beer pong, breaking into the Colosseum, and avoiding deer at 100 mph. Vesper has traveled with him a bunch in the past, and he is the first stop on our trip around the world in Mexico City.

Anna Claussen worked closely with Laura at Epic and was vital to keeping her sane. Anna has done a fair bit of traveling with us including Belize (fluent in Spanish and scuba certified), Denver (also a home brewer), and Greece (tans like a champ).

Sean McMenamin is Laura's favorite brother. December 5 (our wedding day) also happens to be his birthday so when you see him make sure you wish him a great one and let him know that you agree: his big sis is taking away from his special day.

Carl Schager is one of our most adventurous friends as demonstrated by eating scorpions, three elbow dislocations, and the worst of all: drinking Chinese beer (ew). He will be officiating our ceremony as a newly ordained minister, so if the ceremony is too long it's all his fault.

Things to do in Madison

While you are in town enjoy yourself like a local Sconnie. Check out this map for some of the places we love.

Gifts

Your presence at our wedding is present enough, but if we are honored with a gift from you, a monetary gift that we could use towards our upcoming trip around the world (see the what's next section below) would be very much appreciated.

We can accept money via PayPal, you can send it to veswill3@gmail.com with Google Wallet, or there will be a gift box at the wedding.

What's Next?

Our future holds a lot of traveling! This fall we'll be road tripping to national parks (including Glacier, Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, Zion, and Arches), visiting family in Hawaii, and 2016 will be spent traveling around the world! We'll be starting off in Mexico City, then heading south to Central America, all over South America, back up to Europe, then down to South Africa before we head over to southeast Asia, New Zealand and Australia. While that's about as much planning as we've done so far, we know we'll be staying at hostels, camping, and probably trying to get some jobs along the way to help afford this endeavor. We'll be blogging about our adventures on this website so you can follow us along our journey. We'd also love any visitors along the way, tips about places you've been, or couches we can sleep on!
